Turn a fallen NPC into a story
An NPC’s Sorrow is a free backstory generator for dungeon masters and game masters. Reveal a scene and the personal keepsakes left behind by a fallen fantasy character. Use them as roleplaying prompts, clues, or a quiet moment after an encounter.
Choose a character or leave it to fate
Open “Who was this?” to choose a name, lineage, sex, age, trade, or location. Use a Forgotten Realms setting or generic fantasy, then select “Reveal their sorrow.” No account is required.
Save and share a tale
Generated characters appear in your graveyard in this browser. Copy a tale into your campaign notes, or share its link or QR code with your group. A shared link recreates the same tale. Clearing browser data removes your local graveyard, so keep links or copies of tales you want to retain.
Does it require a particular ruleset?
